Betsy by the Beach is a pop-up book that I created to encourage fun and creative learning of counting skills.

Through reading this book and having students actively participate in counting, students will learn to count objects, determine categories of objects, and count the number of objects within each category.
This lesson will also be reinforced by group and individual counting activities.
Our group counting activity will involve colored popsicle sticks. Everyone in the class will have to sort their popsicle sticks by color and raise different amounts and colors of popsicle sticks when they are called.
For our individual counting exercise, we will use our newfound knowledge of the beach and of counting to create our very own beach counting drawings! Each student will be asked to draw a beach scene that includes different numbers and categories of beach related objects.
