The Egg Cart Challenge was an activity in which we created a cart that would successfully protect an egg while it rode down a ramp. As kindergarteners might have trouble creating and building their own carts, I think that this activity would best be used as a class activity. My suggestion is that the class would brainstorm design ideas as a group and then the teacher would construct the cart that the class came up with. The students could take turns releasing the cart down the ramp and seeing if the egg was successfully protected. I wrote a lesson plan for this activity assuming that older students would be building their own carts, but the lesson plan can be modified accordingly. Despite this, the Georgia Standards are still applicable. I intended part of the lesson to focus on transportation safety, which is very applicable to a kindergarten class. Students are aware of things that keep them safe in the car and will be able to apply these concepts to the egg cart.
